about

I sing and play the blues on mandolin and Irish banjo. Yep, I know that's weird. They just happened to be my main instruments as my obsession for the blues bubbled to the surface again.

I played at The Log Drive Cafe the other night. It was a pile of fun, but at the end of the night I was asked a question for which I was unprepared: "Where can we get some of your music?"

Rookie mistake. Luckily, I always bring my little digital recorder with me, so I can obsess over my playing afterward. The sound isn't fantastic quality, but it's definitely okay.

Anyhow, The Log Drive encourages its folk to sing along, so you'll hear a full chorus of singers with me in spots. It really is a great way to do a show.

--

All songs are written by various blues heroes of mine. I've arranged them (and sometimes totally changed them) for mandolin and Irish banjo.

about

Paul Spafford Ottawa, Ontario

Hey y’all,

I came from the back woods of Odessa, Ontario, and moved to Ottawa in the mid- 90s. After a shameful foray into folk music, I now play acoustic blues on mandolin and Irish banjo - concentrating on a minimalist, melodic sound.

Trust me, you'll like it.
